Privacy Policy — Lands: message tone reader
Last updated: 22 June 2026
Lands is a Chrome extension that reads a message you are writing and tells you how it will land to the person you are writing to. This policy explains what data Lands handles, who it is shared with, and how long it is kept.
Data controller: Progmatic LLC — contact: progmaticllc@gmail.com
What we collect
When you click "Check how it lands", the extension sends to our server:
- The draft message text you are analyzing.
- The recipient type you picked (e.g. "a teammate", "my manager", "a family elder"). This is a preset label, not the person's name or email address.
- The context (work or family) tied to that recipient type.
- An anonymous usage ID — a random string generated in your browser and stored locally on your device. It is used only to count how many free checks you have used today. It is not linked to your name, email, or Google account.
We do not collect your name, your email address, your contacts, your Gmail account identity, or any other emails in your inbox. Lands only ever sees the text you actively choose to analyze.
How your draft is processed
- Your draft is processed in memory only. It is never written to disk, never written to a database, and never written to any log.
- Our server forwards your draft to Anthropic (see below) to perform the tone analysis, returns the result to your browser, and discards the draft.
- The only thing our server keeps is the anonymous daily counter (usage ID → date + count). It holds no message content.
- To prevent abuse and protect the service, our server briefly processes the IP address of incoming requests to rate-limit them. This is handled in memory only, is not written to any log or database, is not linked to your usage ID or identity, and is discarded automatically.
Who it is shared with
To analyze tone, we send your draft to Anthropic, PBC as a sub-processor (the Claude API). Anthropic processes the text to generate the analysis and returns it.
- Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, inputs and outputs are automatically deleted within 30 days by default and are not used to train their models. If a request is flagged for violating Anthropic's usage policy, Anthropic may retain the inputs and outputs for up to 2 years and trust-and-safety classification scores for up to 7 years.
- We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or any other third party.
Retention
- On our side: none. Draft content is never stored. The anonymous daily counter resets each day.
- On Anthropic's side: auto-deleted within 30 days per their API terms (longer only for content flagged as policy-violating, as noted above).
Your rights
Because we store no personal data and no message content on our side, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. You can:
- Withdraw consent at any time via the "Privacy" link in the extension panel. After withdrawing, no drafts are sent until you consent again.
- Stop all data sending by removing the extension from Chrome.
Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/EEA under GDPR, California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Contact progmaticllc@gmail.com for any such request.
Permissions
storage — to save your anonymous usage ID and your consent choice locally on your device.
- Host access to
mail.google.com — so the panel can appear in Gmail.
- Host access to our analysis server — to send the draft for analysis.
Acceptable use
Lands is a writing-tone aid for ordinary personal and business correspondence. It is not intended for, and you agree not to submit, regulated or confidential information that you are not authorized to share — including protected health information (e.g. HIPAA), financial account or payment-card data, government-issued identifiers, or other people's special-category / protected personal data. If your draft contains such information, do not use Lands on it. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to process any content you submit.
Limited Use disclosure
Lands' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the change is material, surface a fresh consent prompt in the extension.
